You’re welcome to my island, you’re welcome in my home,

You’re welcome at my table, you’re welcome to sing along.

It’s been a long time since we’ve been there,

It’s been a long time since we cared,

It’s been a long time since we’ve had each other like before,

We’re lookin’ forward to the new time,

We’re lookin’ forward to it all,

You know we can’t wait any longer,

now it’s time to be together.

Never gonna’ leave you, never gonna’ let you go.

Never gonna’ lose you never gonna’ give you up.

Never gonna’ leave you, I’m gonna’ make it show!

I’ll be home before too long, we’ll be back together.

A mountain was our love and this will last forever!

It’s been a long time since we’ve been there,

It’s been a long time since we cared,

But now we know it’s all behind us,

We’ve got tomorrow we can share.

I’m still in love with you, are you still in love with me.

The times we called our own, will be in our hearts for now and ever.

I’m still in love, still in love, still in love with you. I’m still in love, still in love, still in love with you.

We sang our songs of love, we loved the songs we sang together.

We hoped our love would last, we thought our love could last for ever.

I’m still in love, still in love, still in love with you.

And now that we’re alone I think about your eyes and remember,

The times we called our own, will be in our hearts for now and ever.

I gotta have fun with you, I’d love to have fun with you.

When you love one, it’s hard enough,

But when you love two, it’s double trouble,

The first one can be, so much fun,

The second one, makes you run and run,

It is brand new, for her and you,

But please don’t worry, it’s part of life.

Chorus

Lovin’ and Livin’, Livin’ and Lovin’, Lovin’ and Livin’, it’s just a game

Lovin’ and Livin’, Livin’ and Lovin’, Lovin’ and Livin’, it’s all the same

She talks about, the way it was,

And she talks about, the way it should,

And she talks about, the way it is,

And she talks about, the way it could be.

It seems to me, if your gonna play,

You need to play, a certain way,

And it’s not for me, to tell you how,

You need to find, the path yourself.

You feel inside, about the potential,

And you fell inside, about the consequential,

A philosopher, I am not,

You need to do, what your passion tells you.

Please don’t love me from a distance, I got to have you next to me,

Through the good times and the sorrow,

My love for you will always be,

Please don’t love me from a distance, Let our live reflect ourselves,

May we always keep in our heart,

A love that shares and understands.

Please don’t love me from a distance, Believe in us and we become,

Like the oak tree in our front yard,

Growing tall and very strong.

Please don’t love me from a distance, Please don’t love me from afar,

Please don’t love me from arms length,

Cause this is all that I ask of you.

We know a man who moves from bar to bar,

He holds above him a tray of sweets to eat,

When he walks in a little show he does,

He sings and dances of food he has to sell,

You can’t deny this Brady street type of guy,

He jumps and spins as happy as can be,

The East side is where we all belong,

When this man dances, we want to dance along.

Cannoli man he dances on his feet most every night,

He tries to sell his goods to everyone who is in sight

Cannoli man he dances with his sweets up in the air

He spins around singin’ I got Cannoli and pepperoni

Come on and dance Cannoli Man

As life takes it’s turns you might wish for another,

or a different road we can take.

It’s the road that we travel and the bumps that we take,

And the swerves that we need to handle,

Writing songs and playing music is what I got to do,

It gets me through the day, what I want is quite different I beg of you,

I need to find the way.

You make a difference in my life wo wo wo

You make a difference to me,  repeat

We have browsed these rooms many times before,

And never found the key.

It’s the hardest of hards and that empty feelin’,

That you get when you lost your love.

Writing songs and playing music is what I like to do,

It gets me through the day,

Just to find in the corner of that lonely room

A teacup filled with you.

External link opens in new tab or windowWe’ll Be Alone Oo-La-La

What I really want to do is get on a plane and go to a deserted island,

It would be you and I and the deep blue sky, No one would be the wiser.

We could wear what we want or nothing at all,

And leave the world behind us.

The beach would be ours you can count on that,

We’ll be alone Oo-la-la, we’ll be alone Oo-la-la

We would laugh and sing and play all day in the warm and beautiful sea,

As night approached we’d watch the sun dip slowly into the ocean,

Take a swim at dusk, make love at night, take all the time we need,

The smallest things would mean a lot,

We’ll be alone Oo-la-la, we’ll be alone Oo-la-la

We’ve got nothing to do but lay around and drink strawberry margaritas,

Let our selves explore the soul that lives just below the surface,

A kiss a look a hug could last all night long,

We would share our dreams our deepest thoughts,

We’ll be alone Oo-la-la, we’ll be alone Oo-la-la

A walk on the beach and tossing stones is just what the Dr. ordered,

I’d like to feel the wet sand between my toes as I watch the surf roll in,

The breeze in our face and the sun on our buns,

Our bodies will turn golden brown,

No Tan Lines for us ‘cause we’ll be in the buff,

We’ll be alone Oo-la-la, we’ll be alone Oo-la-la

In stormy weather, it doesn’t matter at all.

Oh take me, to the city called Joy Town,

Where the people are happy as they  play in the sun,

Oh take me, to the city where we belong ,

Where the people there have fun,

As they play around.

I’ve got a story to tell, about my life & a wishing well,

I’ve thrown so many nickels in,

It surprises me that I wish at all,

‘Cause when they fall in, they seem to disappear

But some day soon the well will fill,

To the top with all my dreams,

Then I’ll be able to crawl on top and pick one out

And make my choice, I’ve got a story to tell.

I’ve got a story to tell, of life & all the love I have

To fill my cup is really no big deal,

As long as chains stay off my daily meal.

I will climb any mountain on my hands and knees,

I will sit on the beach and count the grains of sand,

I hope that all people across this great land

Will open up there hearts to dream a dream

And let it live, with in there soul, I’ve got a story to tell.

 I’m a dreamer, just a dreamer,

I’ll be dreamin’ till it comes true,

I’m a dreamer, Dreamer from the heart,

I’m a dreamer, just a dreamer,

I’ll be dreamin’ till it comes true,

I’m a dreamer, I have my moments,

I’m a dreamer just a dreamer from the heart.

And now, now that we’re on our way,

Don’t take it for granted and think that it will stay.

And we, will make some memories that will last our lives,

And we, will take the time to feel love with our eyes,

And now, now that we’re on our way,

Don’t take it for granted and think that it will stay.

Life is a melody that plays on and on,

Love is a story that’s played by the strings of my heart.

There are so many different turns and keys,

And so the thread of living keeps weaving its work,

And there’s always a song to sing,

And there’s always a tear to shed,

And there’s always a life to live.

Life is a string to hang the pictures of my soul,

And if the wall remains then I will continue,

To open up myself like a book to be read,

Never ever fearful of what will be said.

When we’re not together the stars have no sparkle and the moon has lost its glow,

When we’re not together the sun has no shine and the flowers refuse to grow,

When we’re not together the streets all begin and they end in the very same spot,

When we’re not together the birds have no songs  and the bees they have no honey.

Day oh Day oh

When we’re not together the mountains aren’t mountains and the seas are not seas at all,

When we’re not together the only thing real is my heart ‘cause it cries for you, Is my heart ‘cause it cries for you….

The secret of secrets will remain a secret until it’s meant to be oh yeah,

Why love does its work is a mystery, and my heart it cries for you.

 Day oh Day oh

If I had my way I’d love you all day and never, never ever let you go,

Time would stop so love could start to fill the day with passion,

And when we’re together believe me it changes for us and all the world to see,

When we’re together the mountains are mountains and the seas they are seas,

When we’re together my heart it now sings for you, it sings for you, it sings, for you.

We can’t lose, we can’t lose with each other we can’t lose, we can’t lose.

Once I was free to carry on, and once I was free to say bye,

Now that I’ve got you wrapped up in my love, there’s no reason for you to fly,

You’re my girl, you’re my girl, with each other we can’t lose  ETC……….

Once I was free to live alone, And now you’re the one that I choose,

We walk and talk about the days gone by,

We sing our songs and never wonder why,

The next trip will be ours, you can count on that,

We’ll pack our bags and we will never go back.

The life ahead is so much brighter now,

The days are clear of any gloomy clouds,

What’s on my mind and in my tender heart,

Is to live a life that moves in leaps and bounds.

Work is essential for that piece of mind,

To play is what we all hope to find,

No matter where we live or what we do,

My heart will beat forever just for you.

Someday soon it will happen to you, you’ll find a girl or she’ll find you,

Your life will change like a new hairdo or a pair of pants, colored blue.

She’ll take you here, you’ll take her there, the nights are late who really cares,

Gifts for her, gifts for you, life is sweet what do you do.

Give her love, give her love, All night long

Give her love, give her love, All night long Give her love tonight, Give her love tonight.

Summer heat and winters cold, love is sweet so I’m told,

Let your heart do what it must, if you don’t your life will rust.

Don’t forget who you are, with her near you’ll go far,

Take it now while you can, life is sweet what should you do.

The ache in my heart, will never subside, till it's washed away with the love from you.

The pain is mounting, with each passing day, And the need for you, is what’s wrong with me.

Don't you ever lose it, I promise I'll never abuse it if you let me have you tonight.
If you let me have you tonight.

We’re part of a storm, that tears at our hearts, If faith we have, then love we’ve got,

We can’t ever stop, trying to be, good for you and good for me.

The little things, that give us joy, Should be used to build, the love we have,

That’s why I reach out, everyday, To hope and pray that our roads will meet.

Don't you ever lose it, I promise I'll never abuse it if you let me have you tonight.
If you let me have you tonight.  If you let me have you tonight.

I dream my waves, of endless love, Will gently roll upon your shores,

And when they do, I know we’ll find, The gifts of love, that cleanse the soul,

Let my words, make love to you, It’s all I can offer, it’s all I can do.

Don't you ever lose it, I promise I'll never abuse it if you let me have you tonight.
If you let me have you tonight.

Every night when the sun goes down, I think of you and that silly frown,

The way you work and the way you play, It doesn’t really matter what time of day,

When the sun goes down, we’ll be on the town,

We’ll be makin’ love, when the sun goes

When the sun goes down.

Every night when the sun goes down, I think of  touchin’ you and removin’ your gown,

The way you move underneath those clothes, What’s on your mind is what I want to know.

From my CD "Savor The Moment" of 2000

I like to see the shine in your hair, I like to hear the whisper of you,
I like the fragrance of your perfume, ‘cause it reminds me of the times that we shared.
Don’t you ever leave me, don’t you ever leave me, don’t you ever leave me for another.
When we’re together, the birds like to sing. When we’re together, we laugh play and cry.
When we’re together, nothing shines like us, when we’re together, our dreams come alive.
Don’t you ever leave me, don’t you ever leave me, don’t you ever leave me, for another.
Even though we’re far apart, my heart knows that you will be all mine.
Oh, it feels so good, Oh it feels just right, Oh, your all I need, To warm the lonely night.

If you stop my heart from breakin’, when you get the courage of takin’, Can you stop my heart from achin’ Ellisa.
The delights of love are here, wouldn’t you like to stay and share, We have many joyful tears Ellisa, Ellisa.
Like a rose our love would bloom, Watch it grow and fill our room, I’m blinded by your beauty.
Like a rose our love would bloom, Watch it grow and fill our room, I’m blinded by your beauty.
If you stop my heart from breakin’, when you get the courage of takin’, Can you stop my heart from achin’ Ellisa.
When we’re together things will never be the same, The love of our life will make our flowers grow and grow,
When we’re together things will never ever change, Oh Ellisa, won’t you make me yours.

I wish you were mine, I wish you were mine, I wish you were mine to keep to myself, to myself if you were mine.
I wish you were mine, I’d love you always, The stars would shine every night, From my heart to you.
Oh the glory, of loving you is within my reach, Oh the glory, of having you is all that I dream.
I wish you were mine, I’ll wait till the last drop of dew, Then if not of this earth, then in heaven, you’re my fountain of youth.
I wish you were mine, I’ll wait till the last sunset, A love that would follow the sun streams forever,
With us floating away.
Oh the glory, of loving you is within my reach, Oh the glory, of having you is all that I dream.

Come and dance upon the stars with me, take my hand and you will see,
That the stars up above, from just bein’ in love, Ride with the moon on the galloping skies, And take the world and tie it with a bow.
Now you see just what we have, make sure that cloud it never lands,
All the world from above, from just bein’ in love, Ride with the moon on the galloping skies, kiss me and then,
We will call it a day, and take the world and tie it with a bow.

If your lookin’ for love in your life, And you search through every pore in your soul,
We find things we found before but now they mean much more.
The answer was always there sometimes it takes  a little love from somewhere.
If your lookin’ for love in your life, If your lookin’ for love in your life,
If your lookin’ for love in your life, And you look so hard that your eyes they bleed,
‘Cause seeing is believing and if you let your heart feel, You will sing a song that warms you up, it can set you free.
If your lookin’ for love in your life, If your lookin’ for love in your life.
Even though it might seem hopeless, Even though the road seems way to long,
Once your heart has found it’s rhythm, Don’t look back, don’t give up, don’t you stop.
If your lookin’ for love in your life, And the pain is just too much to handle,
The key is to let yourself be loved by someone, With trust and no rules those are for fools, then it will be real.
If your lookin’ for love in your life, If your lookin’ for love in your life, If your lookin’ for love in your life.
If your lookin’ for love in your life, And your pockets come up empty,
You look for the lining to give you hope where there’s none, So you pull your spirit inside out in search of.
If your lookin’ for love in your life, If your lookin’ for love in your life.

The times in my life they all disappear and it’s so very clear,

That things never stay the same anyways well it’s just as good that way.

My story is no surprise to those who’ve loved before

And wanted more from life.

When I’m with you, the stars they shine,

On your face, ‘cause you’re here for ever more,

And now, I do believe, that someone like me,

Can find harmony, yes and all is not lost,

When you have a friend in someone like you,

In someone like you, in someone like you.

I’ve gone away, far away, to find my love in Jamaica, The sky was red, like my love, She’s gone away to the island,
I’ll look for her, in the wind, That’s where she left her love for me, And though it might take for ever, My love for her flows endlessly,
Chasin’ all my dreams, as far as they may go, You’re the one I love and you’re the one I need.
I’ve gone away far away, to find my love in Jamaica, She was to me loves breath of life, Without her I’m not whole,
I was to her, I thought the same, She left me amidst the game, Is there no hope for a man, Who’s lost his love to the wind.

I Do Because I Can
I do because I can, and when I can, I do!
Why would a man not do what he can
when can is who I am?
A man can’t always do what and when he can,
because he’s busy doing what he can!

I Fixed It Right Away
You are such a pro, I fixed it right away!
You couldn't so I couldn't live with it looking, quite that way.
So yes I fixed it you bet your bippy I fixed, I fixed it right today!
My thanks to you for all you do, in what you do and say!

Happy Tears
Happy Tears are the cheers of life that words will never know.
The lives we live are the ones we own and the ones we need to show!

If You Don’t
If you don’t know how to laugh, you’ll cry for the wrong reasons!

Greed
The need to feed one should not impede
Unless need turns into greed.
To provide for family is what we do,
But retaining a balance of how we persue
The staples of life for kids and wife
Should be learned when we’re young and brand new!

If you limit your experiences, you will limit your successes!

We’re all so blessed that you’re around, the love you give can only be found from someone of your great worth.

Your talents abound, there are so many, from cooking to being a Granny.

At this time in my life, I’m really surprised, that I don’t have a bigger fanny.

The blessings you share are felt everywhere, from family to your clients hair.

But there is no bigger fan of you, than the one that said I DO!

You think that’s it? Well no not yet there’s so much more to do!

I’ll clean the house, do the dishes if you wishes, I’d even chase a mouse.

I’d vacuum floors, clean windows and doors, put the clothes away and more.

Make morning coffee, finish painting, and a new kitchen is in store!

The blessings you share are felt everywhere, from family to your clients hair.

But there is no bigger fan of you, than the one that said I DO!

Older Than Yesterday Guys

WE ARE Older than Yesterday guys As we look into our eyes

Today was tomorrow No room for sorrow It’s living that makes us wise.

New Parents

After Victoria tries to teach you what she will allow you to embrace  as your personal style of parenting,

you might then, try comparing your feeble attempts by perhaps

combining and sharing your individual successes and failures with each other by Creating, (Pun intended)

a graph/comparative chart, if you would, with an in depth explication of  what, where, when

and the percentage of effort applied, as well as the success and effectiveness of the variety of techniques attempted during this process by both of you,

making sure to identify each technique, with a clear description using

a name, number or some identifying organizational system so as not to get

CONFUSED

as well as to build in the illusion of consistency, so as to get an overall feel for the direction that you should try to consider adopting

on any given day or time of day, depending on the sleep deprivation, food consumption, stack of dirty diapers,

dishes, clothes and toys scattered everywhere, which includes places in your home that you never knew existed !

That being said, as well as lived, your precious new little package, won’t even know or care

what sleep deprivation, food consumption, stack of dirty diapers, dishes, clothes and toys scattered everywhere is or means,

much less the words that dribble out of your mouth.

The toy for example has been, since the beginning of time,  and keeping in mind that this is common knowledge,

initially at least in the beginning, exclusively used for the sanity of parents, family members and baby sitters.

We all need a little levity sometimes to help keep us above the

 Ap-parent (Pun intended)

potential hazards and confusion caused by the sheer joy of not knowing how to deal with the natural unaffected spontaneity,

which we as adults have lost, of this small child who knows and lives more life in one day than we can pretend to know

and have lived in all of our years on this earth as Gods children. When all else has failed, in-between swamp diapers and puke…..

hug and kiss Victoria.

As a parent, you will always need to encourage Victoria to teach you to know, how to know her better so as to facilitate a learning growing atmosphere

designed to improve and augment the depth of understanding that makes everyone’s life wonderful.

This enables you Becky and Adam as parents to feel free to teach Victoria when she grows up

to do the same for you when you get old and have your own version of

swamp diapers and puke. All you need Is l o v e”

Noodles

I’m gonna’ eat some noodles not the kind that you buy. These are very cool ones, not the kind that you fry.

I’m gonna’ eat some noodles, not from a restaurant or a store. These are very special ones, the kind you’ll beg for more.

I’m gonna’ eat some noodles that I’d like to share with you. But first there are a few things that both of us will have to do.

To the kitchen we will go, the ingredients you’ll have to know. Flour, water, egg and love, now let’s begin the show!

Make a hill of the flour with a well in the middle. Pour your egg and water in it and mix it up like a fiddle.

This is the way to make some noodles this is the way you could. This is the way you make some noodles this is the way you should!

Put it all in a bowl, together if you would. Put it all in a bowl and mix it up real good.

You need to kneed it with your hands, push and pull that wonderful dough.

It’s noodles that we’re making now it’s you we’re showing how.

This is the way to make some noodles; this is the way you could. This is the way you make some noodles; this is the way you should!

Roll it up into a ball and let it rest, for just a while. This is the way to make some noodles, this is my personal style.

Roll it out and lay it flat, now the fun begins. Just cut the shape you want to have you’ll have a thousand grins.

Of all the ones that we will make, these are the ones you’ll take. I’ll share with you and if I didn’t, my heart would surely break.

Enjoy the flavor and the shapes don’t forget what we have done. To home you go with all your noodles remembering all the fun!

They’ll all be waiting to share with the clan, this is my ultimate plan.

No way Jose

NO way Jose could I forget, a wonderful person like you.

For if I did, the loss so great, forever I would regret.

But to regret is to remember that which you thought you forgot,

so to worry or wonder how weird it might be!

forgetting you.....I WILL NOT!

No Regrets he forgets

There once was a man named Bret who unknowingly forgot he would forget

To remember the things he needed to know now for him he has no regrets

My spirit did find,

My spirit did find, I hope you don’t mind,

It’s just one more, don’t kick me out the door

don’t want to bore, but it’s this great lady we all adore.

New hair-do Ferris

Now that Ferris has his own hair-do

He'll drive the girls wild on the first day of school!

Now that I'm 4

Now that I’m 4 how much more can I store in my little brain?

Perhaps I'll just sit back and relax and count the drops of rain!

They’ll wave to me as they fly by, I’ll shout to them out loud!

We couldn’t be happier or individually proud!

I’ll give each and every one of them an individual name,

Now after 4 I’ll never, how could I ever be the same.

Old Age Is A Gift

You have a good understanding of the great freedom that comes with aging.

You have to like being older.  It can set you free. Be messy and extravagant.

You are entitled to a treat. No guilt for eating that extra cookie,

or for not making your bed, or for buying that silly whatever that you really didn't need.

Read or play on the computer until 4 AM sleep until noon.
You can be forgetful. But then again, some of life is just as well forgotten.

And eventually you remember the important things. You are blessed to have lived long enough to have your hair turn gray,

and then this color and that color.

Retain those youthful laughs we can all learn from. Care less about what other people think.

You have earned the right to be wrong. While your here, Your certainly not wasting time lamenting what could have been,

or worrying about what will be.

One Hair Teddy Bear

The Teddy bear with one hair that’s sitting on a chair, This one little rare bear, that has been sitting on the chair,

I guess he must be a special bear ‘cause he’s sitting on that chair. Nowhere else can I find a Bear that’s sitting on any chair

and nowhere else will I find a bear with only one single hair. Especially one so wonderful, a Bear with only one beautiful hair.

Why should I care, about the Bear, with only one fantastic hair? Is he sitting here or sitting there and is he the kind of bear that will share?

It all depends on you.

Who’s sitting here isn’t over there they are over here for sure. and who’s over there is not over here unless I ‘m over there I were!

If another bear was there, they would be called a pair of Bears with one that has one hair and the other that is willing to share.

Only You Will Know When We Are Done

Only you will know when we are done, only you will have a clue, what’s really left to do.

Only you will know when we are done, it’s up to you when we are thru, with all those things you just magically knew.

Only you will know when we are done, ‘cause when you are I will be too and so grateful just to you.

Only you will know when we are done, I can’t stop writing, it’s what I do! It’s this much fun because of who?

Only you will know when we are done, Oh how I love the color Blue when in that plane I flew.

Only you will know when we are done, when having fun is part of you! I’ll turn the corner and say peek-a-boo!

Only you will know when we are done, when what you do is so brand new, that when it’s done we’ll say yahoo!

Only you will know when we are done, because we include me and when we’re done we’re thru!

Papa Pickles Tickles Words

Pickles Tickles the words that he sees, pickles tickles quite generously.

He loves those crunchy sweet little devils. Green, bumpy and sweet as he wildly shovels 2, 3 and 4 at a time

in hopes he’ll create just for you a rhyme!

Patient Man

In some men’s mind, men are the patients to the patient woman.

In that case the key is for the patient woman to let him think he is the patient

while all along teaching him that patience is not good and that if you need something from him now is not tomorrow!

Perfect

Oh yes, oh yes how could you guess, that I would agree with thee.

It's your logic and thought process, that will be perfect, just perfect for me.

Planet Drake

I’ve returned from orbiting the planet Drake! Soon, to reply to all messages you make.

Be they small or tall I’ll get to them all

much before the end of fall!

Poems wrapped

The poems wrapped in word art told, are poems that I hope will mold,

The minds of you the young and old to your hearts, will forever hold.

Poems That I Owe

These are poems that I owems this is talent that’s not mine.

These are words given to me from our maker the Divine.

Pumpkin Pie

I’m standing by a pumpkin and I’m barely 3 feet tall.

He’s so much taller than me, I hope he doesn’t fall.

If a pie of him I’d make, forever it would take to bake.

That would be just fine with me, ‘cause then the world

 could eat for free.

Re-meet you again!

What an incredible treat to re-meet you again!
To chat of what is, and what was, a memorable then.
To now know, what you do, and the life you pursue,
is without a doubt great, for all who know and love YOU!

Remember

These are things that we’ll remember; you are the ones we loved to meet.

Those were times and people of our lives that we re-live while in our sleep.

The events and people of your world illuminate your heart and health.

These are things we should hold dear it’s truly our only wealth!

Sedentary

My sentiments! The bad thing about being sedentary is that you become the sediment! My sentiments!

SLIDE!

I’m standing on top of this slide all my feelings built up inside.

I’m getting ready to feel the glide and enjoy the wonderful ride.

Susie You're a Dusie

Oh Susie you’re a dusie, I'm so tempted to do a rhyme.

But at this time of the day, I have the will, but not the time.

You'll have to settle now, for just a simple modest one,

'cause it's all I got and we're looking forward, to one heck of a lot of fun!

To Know Who

To know who I was while finding my way has been the key to my success!

To know who you are while finding your way is the key to your success!

To know who you are while finding my way has been the key to my success!

The Invite 2008

OO-La-La we are ready to go. Floating on a boat, who would ever know.

Lots of sun, with no threat of snow and when we return, we'll sport a glow.

A glow, oh yes of our choice it was, to hop on a boat, just because!

The two of you, so nice you are, to invite us to float under invisible stars.

We'll board at 1 for visible fun, our bags are now packed, we gotta’ run!

The Sights

The sights the sounds the breeze without freeze,

at the end of the day we’re brought down to our knees

to rest and remember the food of life

to enjoy a meal with your wonderful wife!

To be thankful for all that you can’t control

of the things that work in your favor.

To be thankful for all that you can control

like the food your about to savor!

The String

What is that thing that surprises my eyes’es?

What is that thing that’s here and gone and makes me laughs’es?

What is that thing that weaves thru my fingers in search of a path, just the perfect one?

What is that thing that tickles my giggles and rolls’es around my galloping toes’es?

What is that thing that bounces on my tummy giving me love, hugs and squeezes?

What is that thing that kneels on my kneeses?

What is that thing?

What is that thing that makes circles on my chest then rolls on my necks’es?

What is that thing that glides up from my chin and kisses my lips’es?

What is that thing that dances on my nose’es then slides down to tickle my cute little cheek bone’es.

What is that thing that circles my neck and plays a song in my ears’es?

What is that thing that gets lost in my hair-do and stumbles down my forehead to say peek-a-boo?

What is that thing that does things that I think things about?

What is that thing that plays and plays’es?

What is this thing?

I think this thing is a String, that is what that things’es is……. a STRING.

The Times

The times we spent the places we went, could have been quite different I’m sure.

If not for you and thanks to you, you saved us a lotta rent

There’s A Third

I heard there’s a third to add to the herd, No way can it be a nerd?

I’m just now catching my breath with 1 and 2, what incredible things you two do!

They maybe a baby for just a short while all faces will fill with a smile.

But it’s the diapers they fill that make us stand still as we try to clean up the pile!

Now these diapers are full of memorable moments the newborn is what I mean.

We just can’t stop loving this incredible baby whether she’s dirty or she’s clean!

The Rule

I gleamed I glowed one thing I knowed this stuff is really cool!

The illos that you create for us, they really really RULE!

Thing?

What do you do with a thing like this? With a thing like this what’s done?

Has anyone ever seen this thing, this thing that looks like fun?

Am I the first, the only one, perhaps others missed?

I should listen closer to its voice it might have a special twist!

Thinking  Thoughts

I’m thinking thoughts that come back to see, if they really want to be thought by me.

I’m thinking thoughts that are new to me, like wondering about the open sea.

My thoughts of things they come and go some are new and some I know.

When they return I’ll treat them well, we’ll have a chance to show and tell.

My face lets me see inside my heart can you hear my heart beating?

I’m way too young to be this smart can you guess what I am thinking?

I’m smart enough to stay this young can you have this much fun?

The bells of life can all be rung as long as you don’t run.

I’ll see my face on another place and try to read my mind.

I know for sure without a doubt it’s love that I will find.

The Toast

We welcome all the new family members and we thank you for honoring us with your “presents”,

“presents” has a double meaning, and today I'm sure that the kids are happy that there are two meanings to that word.

You are all familiar with the old country tradition of the family and friends raising the barn and then building a new one.

With the words “I Do”, the two of  you have just raised your old life and set in place the first brick of the foundation of your new life together.

We are all here to help support in the construction of any other pieces when and if you need us.

Kids have instincts that adults forgot they had, Adults have instincts that kids don’t, won’t

and can’t understand until they are adults.

We share common ground. We should learn from each other at every age.

The word LOVE spelled backwards is the beginning of the word EVOLVE. The Webster dictionary explains that word as meaning:

Result, Unfold, Emerge, Develop  and Grow

Your LOVE will continue to EVOLVE. There Are a lot of symbols that represent your relationship The Rings, Dress, Flowers, Cake, Car the Money you save.

Or as in today the money you spent. None of these really matter, and most assuredly, all of them mean absolutely nothing.

The only thing that has true value, worth and durability, is the lock that the two of you have with each other as friends.

AND the lock that the two of you have with each and every person in this room,

we are your friends.

It’s not these symbols that make you a couple, these symbols represent the results of your lifelong commitment.

 So

May the best day of your past, be the worst of your future.

May your home always be too small to hold all your friends.

May you both live as long as you want.

And never want as long as you live.

And if the roaring flames of your love have burned down to embers

May you find that you have married your best friend... To life!

Triplets

Triplet trees dancing, Kate, John and Nick. Which one is our favorite? We cannot pick.

They were planted together and together they’ll stay, standing and growing in their own special way.

The way they look, they say nothing out loud. But you can feel the power, they’re shouting we’re proud!

The Van

The Van is packed and stacked with bikes in a rack, back packs, camping gear, and yes, even beer!

Clothes for hot and clothes for cold, clothes for biking and clothes for hiking. Shoes to keep our toes warm and shoes to let our toes roam.

We have this, we have that, we even have more than one hat!

We have a map and we are ready to camp! We have our tent, (hopefully the poles aren't bent!).

Just gotta put the man in the Van and start our caravan! (but not until tomorrow am!).

What Is This Thing?

What is this thing that surprises my eyes’es

What is this thing that’s here then gone and makes me laughs’es.

What is this thing that weaves thru my fingers in search of a path,

Just the perfect one!

What is this thing that tickles my giggles and rolls’es around my galloping toes’es?

What is this thing that twists, turns and bounces giving me love, hugs and squeezes?

What is this thing that kneels on my kneeses?

What is this thing that makes circles on my chest then rolls up on my necks’es?

What is this thing that glides up from my chin and kisses my lips’es?

What is this thing that dances on my nose’es

then slides down and tickles my cute little cheek bones’es?

What is this thing that circles my neck and plays a song in my ears’es?

What is this thing that gets lost in my hair-do, stumbles down my forehead just to say peek-a-boo?

What is this thing that does things that I think things about?

What is this thing that plays and plays’es? What is this thing?

I think this things'es is a String. thats'es what this things’es is, a STRING.

Word art

The poems wrapped in word art told, Are poems that I hope will mold,

The minds of you the young and old To your hearts, will forever hold.

 Wood

Would you ever think you could, that you would ever find that kind of wood?

And if you did what would or should you do with all that kind of wood?

I’d get a truck load of marshmallows, build a really super big fire,

and roast them over that dancing flame of which you’ll never tire!

I know!   Get a truck load of marshmallows! We All desire!

Words I Admire for Dave Luhrssen

Your handy way with words I admire,

it’s the tilt of your talent I do aspire.

The ease of your read is to those you feed

the content and clarity that leaves no need,

for further descriptions or in depth depictions,

your joining of letters has no restrictions.

Wordation / Artsation

Distortion is the notion of something being bad!

But this wordation with this artsation, makes me oh, so very glad!

The poems wrapped in word art told, are poems that I hope will mold,

The minds of you the young and old to your hearts, will forever hold.

Yesterday Guys

We’re older than Yesterday guys as we look into our eyes

Today was tomorrow no room for sorrow it’s living that makes us wise.

You Can Count on the un-expected

Your Loss

Your loss is your gain to understand pain. The kind that took for ever to know.

His life, as yours, will continue to show that the rewards of good living will remain.

Your Turning Into Me

Your turning into me 'cause this is who you really be!

Or is it that I'm learning now from you the master of how WOW!

Writings from my Dad

THE EARTH AND MAN

It is frequently in poetry that the most profound,

sensitive thoughts are written. More may be said

in this brief format than in the ponderous prose of

volumes. The wisdom of ages is found in the

Concise Proverbs of Solomon, and in the pointed

insights of Shakespear’s  verse.

Perhaps these short lines say best what I want to tell you.

 DO IT NOW

Let's roll up our sleeves and get to work. There's nothing we can't do. And a thousand things we can do which we haven't even thought of.
Let's build a good, gas-saving car that people can afford. Let's build low-price, simple houses and apartments, enough for all America.
Let's make substantial clothes and furnishings, without the plastic glitter. Let's grow basic foods, which we can buy without false packaging and advertising.
Let's clean the land, the air, the water, they are our greatest gifts. Let's be honest ourselves, and demand honesty in Government.
Let's dream a dream of America, and then roll up our sleeves and get to work,
to make that dream come true !

THE EARTH AND MAN

Simple majestic beauty is nature's truth, The soul's conscience and the

Mind's subtlety. It is

Revealed as the Sun breaks through the clouds,

Warmth follows cold, and Calm, the wind. And in the

Excitement of Jutting peaks, Mysterious depths,

Bright light and deep shadows. And the

Stirring beauty of Clean, glistening ice, Radiant Spring flowers after the rain;

Fragrant green rain forests enchanting With primordial memories.

The music of Rustling leaves and Rushing, tumbling streams.

The shape of things gently softened and obscured: Shifting sands and snow,

Waving grass and white billowed skies.

The miracle of life lives in God's perfect world. Insatiable, inquisitive childhood,

The joys of youth and age.

Honest, sincere hearts stir Life's spirit and feelings.

Sharing conversation, smiles, laughter.

Loving Devotion to family and friends with

Charity and forgiveness.

Grasp the present as it rushes by. Each day an opportunity to

Anticipate, discover, and Reach for the stars with fearless courage.

Victory is in the planning. Then the Difficult choice and belief that

It can be done.

Man's instinct and experience prelude Vigorous, powerful deeds.

With his hands, mind and soul he Creates a masterpiece;

Carving marble hills into heroic statues;

Singing with soft, velvet tones, or Vibrant, soaring fullness.

Playing thundering drums and brilliant brass.

Man to man, he governs who is First master of himself.

Though persuasion may oppose with Cunning and discord, Man is thus

Strengthened and honed so that

The greater the obstacle the greater the victory.

GENERIC MAN

Living is action of substance seeking virtue and worth, not wealth nor show.

Men are all brothers belated, dependent, of one mind, consistent but many opinions and genius unbounded.

Add smalls and littles, drops and grains make the seas, the beaches, the trees.

The man as he travels the middle way and adds to the world through his bond to it.

It is greater than each, and is an eternity.

An infinite variation of nature, and men, who dare to be original, eccentric, non-conforming.

What is past prologues the present and what is now well begun is half the task.

When well ended.

The infinite shadows the known. The world reflects each man, and the multitudes,

though only few ennoble history as they travel alone, swiftly.

Beginning is best to youth, but more is yet to be. Age brings wisdom and charm, and advantage leads to fortune. I grasp the present as it rushes by and live for the day and eternity.

Inevitable revolution. The old yields to the new. Though the old and tried is yearned for.

Only man's nature continues unchanged.

Man in all things reflects the fruit of his labor, his capacities, abilities.

Flickering, mostly untested. strength, giant steps needed, gentleness, and compassion.

Search your thoughts and others with modest inquiry, not unbridled, rude.

Limitless possibilities, once only imagined. But nothing certain, only probable.

Hints may mislead. Believe only the end.

Insight leads experience, instinct, ability. Man thinks, reasons, creates.

A vigorous mind - elastic, powerful. Ideas and thoughts precede deeds.

Run with them, show, lead the way.

What appears may not be. Bright lights and deep shadows consume the shape of things,

Shifting sands and snow gently soften, obscure. Golden apples entice. fragrant, darkly green rain forests enchant and stir primordial memories.

A velvet touch, warming fire of glowing embers crackling. Calm silence after raucous sound.

Music sooths with soft, murmuring voices, excites with thundering drums, and soaring brass and strings. The rustle of leaves, whisper or blustering wind, rushing, tumbling streams.

Man's will and goals unconquerable. Half the victory is planning. Make the difficult choice, let all else serve. Know that it can be done venture, persevere with dauntless, virtuous spirit.

The sure way may be longest, the plan may be changed. Attempt great things,

Failure well taken preludes a Future well made.

Marble hills, heroic statues. Man's craft from within. Outward. Skill is many habits together.

Art, many skills. A masterpiece, mind and soul.

Good the right way will not fail, vigilant principles. Everything its use

Waste begets want, but treasures are a fleeting wisp in the winds of Eternity.

Know yourself. Skill and fortune come from diligent doing with

Enthusiasm, dispatch, not reckless hurry. The end of life is deeds. Aim above convention, but not out of sight.

What man does reflects what he is. Heed good advice. Govern one's self, then others, quietly with respect. With noble toil fortune is made.

Action of honest, sincere character, subtle intellect

Though persuasion may oppose with cunning and discord, it strengthens and hones the man to

attack in his own defense. The greater the obstacle. The Greater victory.

Truth is ever challenged by the revolt of mind. Eternal inquiry, revolution shifts tyranny to

others, multitudes. Authority becomes blind intoxication. Persuasion is lost to brute force.

When knowing how to obediently serve, man takes command. The reward of success is in its doing. Ugliness, struggle, failure are hidden in peace and glory.

A worthy and wise man is master of himself, loving, guarding, defending his Liberty.

The timid weak fear and concede, content with what they get. The strong and sure deserve the

Fruit of their efforts and get what they want. Though not owned by their wealth.

The free and noble share with others, and only the needed is dear to them.

The heart stirs life's spirit, feelings. Limitless in its senses, patient. But strong passions chase reason. Pleasure rejoices with others. But vicious jest is cruel.

Simple beauty the soul's conscience, mind's subtlety nature 's truth.

Ornament glitters, beguiles, defrauds.

Valor is cautious courage, discretion, tenderness, bear defeat, hope - not fear.

Star-reaching, non-resting desire, ambition destroys. Moderation endures.

Vain, hollow fame, contemptuous pride, conceit, destruction. Modest nobleness, fearless, humble, content, respected.

Love, be loved. Spirit, heart and mind, together in friendship. Tried by adversity,

Judgments of others. Solitude, too. Friendly.

Courtesy, charity, soft conversation, conquer wrath, passion.

Forgiveness, compassion, generosity, gratitude, your conscience.

Let principle and Integrity Reign.

Cunning deceives, but justice rewards virtue in its doing. Guiltless, Free of fear.

Righteous, honorable men flourish with valor. Law and reason govern.

God, perfection, anchor and refuge rock and strength forever.

JOHN WENT "BELLY-UP"

John was born in an old hospital in an old neighborhood but proud and neat, where flags still waved on the fourth of July.

He lived in a small white house with a green roof with another smaller white house behind on the small lot.

There was a tavern on the corner where his Ma and Pa and brothers and sisters went on Sunday to eat,

and have popcorn, and his Pa drank beer with a shot of brandy and the bigger kids played pool and Father Bronislaus would drop in after mass.

His Pa worked at the foundry and got awfully dirty, but was clean as a pin on Sunday and wore a white shirt.

His Ma took care of the kids, washed clothes and baked and grew a garden like her Ma had done in the old country.

There was an Icon of Mary hanging in the living room and a lot of ferns.

The Gorskis were honest, hard-working, and didn't trust banks, the money left over each week was put in a jar in the cellar, just like their neighbors did.

The parish school was closed a couple years ago, and John walked to the city school a few blocks away but he didn't learn much

because the teacher didn't teach much because she didn't know much.

Junior high was further away, and John was bussed for an hour. He didn't learn much because

the kids were always goofing around and the teacher couldn't do much except try to calm them down.

John went to high school and rode the bus for an hour and a half. The kids had gangs, roughhoused, and smoked pot in the bathroom.

They bought it on the street with money they had stolen. Not much learning… So John quit school when he was sixteen and

went to work "cleaning up" in the foundry where his Pa worked. But then the foundry closed, and his Pa got laid off, and John

joined the Army.

John was a regular guy honest, hard-working, from a good hard-working family. Went to church fought for his country.

But What Went Wrong! He didn't learn much in grade school, less in junior high, nearly nothing in high school.

The army needed infantry and didn't have time to teach him beyond basic training.

He could only do manual labor, but he did it good -- loading barrels and sweeping floors.

Too bad the schools didn't teach him, too bad the army didn't teach him,

Too bad the factory moved out of the state, too bad the union didn't get "the picture"

Too bad…  for John!

He was big and strong, and learned what a foot soldier learned. And when he got back home the foundry was still closed.

He thought he had better learn something to get a job but he couldn't read or figure good enough, and flunked

out of a mechanics course. For a while he sat around the house and looked at the Icon of Mary.

He talked with Father Bronislaus. He talked with his Ma and Pa. He talked to old friends and a girl he knew.

Where was he to go? What was he to do?

He finally got a job loading beer trucks, but they closed the old brewery plant.

He got another job in maintenance at a factory, but the factory moved South.

He got a job in a shoe factory, but the union wanted too much money,

and the factory went "belly up"

 And So did John!

Creative writing from my Mom 1965:
A Word To The Wise
"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never harm me."
I often used this rhyme during my grade school years in an effort to "rise above" an unkind or taunting remark
that had been directed at me. It was a foolish rhyme because in fact, unkind words did hurt.

They hurt far deeply and remained in my memory much longer than any physical battles that I engaged in as a child.
One incident that I recall most vividly happened when I was seven years old. My sister and I were having a race to
see who could get to the back door of our house first. My sister, being three years older than I, reached the door
first, and slammed it shut behind her. I was very close behind her, and as the door with its glass window rushed
toward me, I impulsively put my right hand out to break my momentum. The sound of shattering glass brought my mother
running. My hand had gone through the window without a scratch, but the jagged edges of the broken glass had ripped
open the skin at my wrist, exposing the bone. After some hurried first aid, my mother rushed me to our family doctor
who repaired the damage with ten stitches. The following day in school, my third-grade teacher
noticed that I was not doing my written work in class, and she asked me to explain why. The unimpressive looking bandage
that circled my wrist, and my simple explanation that I had cut it and that it hurt me to write, did not satisfy my teacher.
She apparently believed that I was using a minor injury as an excuse to escape class work. Her words of ridicule were painful to me,

and my classmates thought it great sport to mimic the teacher's words at my expense. Weeks later, the teacher
noticed my healing wrist and she lamely commented, "My, that was quite a cut, wasn't it?" This experience was very instructive.

It taught me to beware of judging the intentions of other people, to avoid making snap judgments, and to avoid the use of ridicule in
any form. After this experience, the Bible passage in Proverbs 15-4 seemed especially meaningful to me: "A wholesome tongue
is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in spirit." Gossip and unkind criticism are other examples of the
harmful use of words. I always thought it ironic that so many women chose the Sunday morning worship service as the
place to exchange unkind remarks and to gossip about other members of the congregation. At times I would return home
from church remembering more of what had been said by the gossipers than by the preacher. Again, I learned from these
negative experiences and from Proverbs 18-7: "A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul."
Happily, I did not derive all of my learning from negative experiences. Every school day, when I returned home for lunch,

my mother tuned in a radio program of Gospel music. We used the words of the theme song for our noon day prayer.
It was as follows:

If I have wounded any soul today,
If I have walked in my own willful way,
If I have spoken harmful words, I pray,
Dear Lord, forgive

BOY WONDERS

I wonder where the sun goes when it slowly sinks from sight.

I wonder where the wind goes as it whistles in the night.

What happens to the twinkling stars as morning dawns anew?

I wonder where's my fishing pole and worms I loaned to you!

FACE IN THE WINDOW

Spooks in the bushes, and spooks on the walk, Spooks on the porch, at the door, at the lock.

A tap at the window, "Oh, what could it be? I see a face and it's looking at me!"

I must be brave, I'll not make a sound. My dog will protect me. "Where IS that hound?

Skipper, Oh Skipper, come here, don't you see, that face in the window is looking at me?"

Skipper is shaking with fright ‘neath my bed, tail all tucked under, his paws on his head.

If he could talk I’d know just what he’d say. "Face in the window, Pl-ee-ze go away."

Laughter and giggling sounds in my ears. "Ding" goes the doorbell, the face disappears.

I open the door, there's Jimmy, and Pete And Mary, and Janet.

The shout, Trick or treat!

LITTLE OPERATOR
Hello, hello, who's on the phone? I'm calling ‘cause I'm all alone.
My sitter's fallen fast asleep. I'd talk to you, but there's a beep.
Hello, hello I'll dial some more. Ten times around, my finger's sore.
I hear it ring. What did you say? You live in Califor-ni-a?
My mommy says that's far away. My aunt lives there; I'm in Cape May.
Goodbye, goodbye, now let me see. This time I'll try, 0 - 1 1 3.
Hello Mom I'm glad you're home. I've been so busy on the phone.
A big red fire truck's on the way. Now can I go out and play?

WALKING IN THE WIND

I have walked in the wind along the ocean's shore, and watched the thundering whitecaps roll,

And wiped the wind-lashed spray from stinging eyes, and winced at the taste of salt on shivering lips.

I have bent with the wind and climbed a hill on an autumn day, and rolled in the dusty mounds of leaves,

And gazed at the golden hues, the crimson, green; and silver birch that stands against cerulean skies.

I have thought how the wind is a playful thing, as it howls with glee and chills the nose and burns the skin.

How it steals my hat and sneaks beneath my clothes, and laughs as it rearranges clouds to hide its face from view.

Love Is A Mystery

Love is a mystery unraveling as it grows. A gentle buoyant force that penetrates the soul.

It's presence felt, its absence missed, T’is often measured by a kiss.

Love is an awesome power, denied to evil man. Unleashed would conquer sorrow and melt the hearts of men.

It shrivels dies for lack of giving with its death there is no living. Love is a radiant cross it’s vibrant beams in motion.

Encircling the earth around, God speaks of his devotion.

God's gift to man to take and share and spread contentment everywhere.

How the Kangaroo Got Its Name
Once there was a tiny jumping mouse named Kang. He lived in the woods near an old red barn.

Kang Like to hunt for food in the barn but he did not like the big yellow cat that lived there. Kang the mouse knew the yellow cat wanted to eat him up.
“I wish I could grow big,” said the mouse, “and then I would chase the cat and he would be afraid of me!”
One day the tiny jumping mouse went hop, hop, hop into the barn to find something to eat. He found a bag that read, “Giant Peas.”

The mouse chewed a hole in the bag and began to eat the peas. He ate and ate and ate…and ate!
All at once, the jumping mouse felt very strange. He wasn’t hungry anymore. His tail was growing bigger. His feet were growing bigger.

His ears were getting bigger. He was getting bigger all over! Kang did not know what was happening to him. He took a little jump. “Oh,” he cried, “I’m flying.”

He jumped again.”Whee-ee-ee-ee,” cried Kang as he shot high into the air, right over the big yellow cat. When the cat saw Kang, he ran away as fast as he could go.

Kang jumped all over the farm yard. He jumped to the top of the hay pile. He jumped right over the pond and the ducks were so afraid, they dove to the bottom.

All the farm animals looked at the mouse and shouted, “Look! Kang Grew! Look Kang Grew!” Kang wasn’t little anymore. He wasn’t even a mouse.

He was too big to be a mouse. No one knew what he was. Ever since then, Kang’s friends have called him, Kangaroo!

THE OPPORTUNIST

Inside the red brick country school house, Miss Baxter's second grade students hurried to finish their last assignment of the day.

"Be sure that you put your name at the top of your paper," she said," and print the date underneath."

After the children finished their work they quietly filed past the teacher's desk, deposited their papers in a wire basket,

and hurried to the cloakroom for their coats. Blond, blue-eyed Janie sat on the cloakroom floor and struggled with her boots.

She was still buckling them when the dismissal bell rang loudly and the children hurried out of the room.

A chubby, round-faced little girl called Janie from the door, "Remember you promised to bring me a piece of your birthday cake tomorrow."

Janie nodded and answered, "I won't forget." She began to wonder if her birthday cake would be two layers or three layers high

but she knew it would be hidden until the family was assembled around the dinner table that evening.

When she finished dressing, Janie returned to her desk and pulled out her most prized possession, a brightly color- beaded purse

that was a birthday present from her mother. With the purse firmly in hand, she left the building to go home.

She noticed a small boy still on the playground swinging himself around the base of the metal school flagpole.

When Janie appeared, he stopped himself abruptly and ran over to her. "Hey Janie," he called "Can I walk you home?"

Janie was obviously flattered by this unexpected offer and her face beamed as she replied, "Sure, George - - if you want to."

Janie lived on a small farm about one half mile from the school. It was unusually warm for a winter day in Wisconsin, and

as the children walked slowly along the country road, they plodded through puddles left by melting snow.

George talked steadily while he tugged at his recalcitrant, droopy knickers. He told Janie that he thought she looked

pretty with curls in her hair and that he liked girls that wear glasses. Janie tried to think of all the girls she knew

who wore glasses and she remembered that she was the only one in her class so adorned.

As George talked she became increasingly aware for the first time that he had many virtues. She thought it was remarkable

that she had not noticed these virtues until today. "This is a wonderful day," thought Janie as she recalled how Miss Baxter had written

her name on the blackboard in colored chalk, and the whole class had sung the Happy Birthday song just for her.

How proud she felt when she stood in front of her classmates and showed them her beautiful new purse with the ten shiny new pennies inside.

Now as she and George walked home together, Janie knew that this was the brightest, most exciting moment of her day.

She had made a conquest! George really liked her. Hadn't he asked to walk all the way home with her?

As they reached the top of the hill, the familiar red barn came into view; and just beyond it Janie could see the freshly washed sheets flapping

in the wind and her mother taking them off the line. When George paused at the side of the road, fidgeted, and looked back in the direction

they had come, Janie twisted and turned the chain handle of her purse so that it glistened in the afternoon sun.

The coins inside jingled musically. After a brief moment, George fixed his gaze upon the purse and asked,

"Are you going to bring it to school tomorrow?" "Bring what?" asked Janie. "The purse," said George, "Are you going to bring it tomorrow?"

Janie replied, "No, my mother won't let me." "What are you going to do with all that money?" George asked.

"I'll save it, I guess," said Jane. George moved closer and pointing at the twirling, beaded object in her hand, said,

"I like you. Why don't you give the money to me?" George didn't wait for an answer. He moved next to Janie, kissed her on the cheek,

snatched the purse, and ran. Janie was stunned for a moment, unable to understand fully what had happened.

Then, as George disappeared behind the crest of the hill, tears welled up in Janie's eyes.

Suddenly she knew the awful truth. George wanted only her money.

Can a welfare state produce a "Great Society?"

Many people think so including philosophers, educators, clergymen and left-leaning, liberal politicians. Our own President thinks so.

He is determined to build a "Great Society" which is dedicated to the proposition that all people have a right to expect free and equal federal support,

material security, and social privilege. The greatness of this society is to be measured by the amount of joy, contentment, leisure time, and peace that is expected to result.

The Socialist leaders of Sweden had this dream long before President Johnson told the American public about it.

In fact, the leaders of Sweden realized their dream twenty years ago, and that country has been reaping its rewards ever since.

All basic needs of the people are provided by the state. Unemployment and poverty have been abolished, there are no "distressed" areas of city slums,

and no racial troubles plague them. If the formula is correct, Sweden should now be a truly the "Great Society." Alfred Zanker, in the February 7 issue of  "U.S. News & World Report,"

has written a startling report about Sweden. He states that "Sweden has become a country with a crime explosion and growing problems

of alcoholism and narcotics addiction." In addition, there has been "a 'catastrophic' increase in venereal disease among youngsters,

especially since 1959." "Physicians say that gonorrhea and syphilis are more widespread in Sweden today than in any other civilized country in the world."

Apparently the welfare state is having an effect upon its citizens. The Socialist leaders had hoped that a "full fledged" welfare state would gradually cure,

or at least reduce social ills such as crime and alcoholism. On the contrary, Mr. Zanker reports that the crime rate has gone up in Sweden 97 per cent in 15 years,

that law enforcement is slow and inefficient, and that "the number of young drug users is reaching shocking proportions."

Mr. Zanker comes close to the heart of the matter when he observes that "atheism, religious indifference, and moral 'nihilism' are found among young and

'radical' intellectuals who are now dominating public discussion in Sweden." The following observations of Alexis De Tocqueville in 1840, concerning the socialistic state

seems to describe Sweden's dilemma very well:

"The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting.

Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people,

till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals of which the government is the shepherd."

Can a welfare state produce a "Great Society?" Can a welfare state produce incorruptible leaders for future generations?

Does the possession of material things necessarily promote honesty, moral integrity, spiritual strength? Can money buy happiness?

From the Christian point-of-view, it is humanly impossible to produce a "Great Society" which is based upon material wealth and security by the welfare state.

In such a society money corrupts because the motivation for individual responsibility is gradually smothered. The state replaces God as the

great provider. The strength of a truly great society springs not from government, but from the strength of individuals who make up society.

AUTOBIOGRAPHY

Shortly before the depression of 1929, my parents sold their Iowa dairy farm and moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where my father embarked on a new business venture.

Knowing that his income would be uncertain for a while, my father wisely decided to move our family to a small farm where we could raise a few chickens and keep a milk cow.

Consequently, my sister and I never suffered from hunger during the depression years that followed. Save fuel, most of the rooms in our large farm house were not

heated during the winter months. For me, then four years old, the novelty of moving into two rooms heated by a large coal-burning cook stove made up for any inconvenience.

Although this arrangement was most difficult for my mother, she always seemed cheerful; it was natural for her to turn a miserable situation into a happy experience.

My sister and I especially enjoyed the evenings when mother told us delightful stories as we sat in the dark, huddled around the kitchen stove.

The grates were uncovered so that we could watch the glowing, red-hot coals. We imagined that we could see the characters of the stories in the tiny flames as they

danced and skipped about. The story sessions ended when warm weather returned and we could use all of the rooms again.

In the living room stood an old upright piano that had been left there by former residents. It was in a deplorable state of disrepair, but I was fascinated

with it, and I begged my mother to let me take piano lessons. Mine was an impossible request, it seemed, for two very good reasons: first, there was no piano teacher available

and second, we could not afford the cost of lessons. Nevertheless these practical considerations made little impression on me,

and I persisted in my request. Sometime later an enterprising young piano teacher visited our grade school in search of new students.

He tested all interested students for their musical aptitude. Naturally, I was one of the first to volunteer. I made a perfect score on my test. I was

overjoyed when the piano teacher promised to talk to my parents about taking lessons. It was not easy to convince them, but between my tearful pleading

and the teacher's practical, special financial arrangements, we won our case. It was decided that my piano lessons would be paid for

in eggs, butter, and cream; plus any other farm produce that my mother had to offer. My piano teacher influenced me mightily during the

seven years I studied with him. In addition to being a talented pianist, my teacher was an astute psychologist. He knew that motivation was an essential ingredient in learning,

and he was able to instill in me the desire to strive for perfection in playing the piano. I also learned that good practice habits helped me to perform consistently

well,  and that it was much more difficult to break a bad habit, than to learn a good one. Regarding the latter, I had deve1oped the practice of

sliding back and forth on the piano bench as I played the high and low registers of the piano keyboard.

Although my teacher reminded me that this was a bad habit, I persisted. One evening while performing in concert I reached for a chord in the low register,

slid right off the bench and fell on the floor. I broke the habit!

God

Cascading snowflakes, frosted lace trees

Glistening cathedral-like icicles freeze.

Moon beams reflecting on ice-covered pools

Sparkling white snow cover hills set with jewels.

These precious gifts God has given you,

Heaven’s His throne, the earth His footstool;

His robe is a mantle of snow, dazzling white

His crown made of the morning stars twinkling and bright.
